Who are we?

Cheshire and District Sprinters are Six friends who enjoy motorsport. We just want to show how the average Joe Blogger can get in their car and RACE!!!!

We have all owned and tracked Subaru Impreza's in the past but it's nice to get out there and try different marques. Let's see what unfolds for us in 2011/2012.

Round 2 Northern Speed Championship & C&LMC Speed Championship

Round 2 is at AintreeSprint,

The Aintree Circuit has a rice motor racing history date back to the early 1900’s. Situated in the heart of Liverpool next to the horse racing circuit this inner circuit course is a hidden gem. More famous for  horse racing the Aintree Sprint Circuit offers an excellent drive with smooth tarmac kept to very high standards.

Once again Ian & John are competing in Road Modified (class 1b 1600-2000cc)

Received the Supplementary Reg's today along with a nice healthy 159 entries. Only 8 in Class 1b this time but the 'TOP' runners are all there so will be some even bigger brave pills needed by CADS Racing to get placed.

Ian Racing under number 15
John Racing under number 16

Round 1 Nothern Speed Championships & LCMC Speed Championships

Round 1 3 Sisters Sprint at Ashton in Makerfield near Wigan on Sunday 15th April 2012.

Received the Suplementary Regulations yesterday along with the entry list, 129 Entries and 12 in the same Class as me 1b Road Modified 1600-2000cc. A mix RS Clio's, Pug 205's, Bmw's, R5 GTT, 306 GTI's & Capri's make an interesting mix and some very tough competition.

I think my RS will be the least powerfull car in the Class but hope that the Fantastic setup and Chassis work done by Chevron Motorsport over the winter will even things up on such a twisty Circuit lasting only 1 mile on this occassion and shortest of all Circuits being visited this season.

Results for how both myself and John get on will be posted asap or Live Timing can be watched here http://www.tsl-timing.com/?loc=club&season=2012&series=SPRINT&event=club

Well where do i start  ;D.................1st practice run i span at the bottom of the mountain but managed to do a 360 and carry on and got a time of 63.89 seconds, really struggled with rear tyre grip and played about with tyre temps for 2nd practice run, the run was again troubled with tyre grip or lack of it  ;D and finished with a time of 54.71. 1st Timed run again changed tyre pressures which felt better but still struggled for grip but had a respectable time of 53.89 which put me in 4th place. 2nd Timed run Tyre pressures changed again but definately went the wrong way but was a better time again of 53.46     but this included a bit of grass tracking breaking my corner splitter oooooooooooops, bit of Gaffer Tape and Tyre pressures increased to where i started and the best run of the day with 53.33.

It gave me a 4th in the Northern Speed Championship and a 2nd in the C&LMC Speed Championship. I was still a bit perplexed on being 1.3 Seconds off the leading 3 cars until i had a chat with them after and found all of them were running 'trick' diffs. So basically i was quickest 'Non Trick' diff which are good for around 2 secs a lap.

Anyway really enjoyed today and Massive thanks to TC, Brian & Karen, Trigger, Willo & Barb for coming along and giving your support, it really does mean alot to share with you guys  :)

Round 2 is 12 Days away at Aintree and looking forward to it already.

Hopefully John will do his own write up and also did a cracking job all day long today  :)

Here is a few pics that Alex took of me giving my tyres some real pain  ;D and a Video of one of the runs

And Video

did some conservative figures for winners car against my Clio:

Winner:

Power to Weight:      280 bhp/ton
0-60:      5.0
0-100:      11.9
60-100:      6.9
1/4 Mile ET:      13.09

Mine:

Power to Weight:      175 bhp/ton
0-60:      6.6
0-100:      16.8
60-100:      10.2
1/4 Mile ET:      14.77

Guess that says it all when i'm over 100bhp per ton disadvantage, feel better now

ECU Project

Next project has already begun but as a sideline, i'm making my own ECU, all bits are on their way and will have plenty of head scratching wiring all sensors, ignition etc and actually getting it to run the Car. Will keep me busy for a while anyway :)

Last Few Touches

Before the season starts.............Booked into CheVron Motorsport for a new steering joint, and geometry setup again due to tyre changes & car weight loss. Also Changed the RS colour scheme a bit by painting the Wheels Illuminous Orange along with the Mirror caps and Front Air intakes.

RR booked for Wednesday just to make sure everything is healthy and see what power differences the porting and matching has done.

Pre Porting graph (stock inlet) - 165.6bhp:

Post Porting graph (RS inlet) - 167.4bhp:

Magnecor Competition Ignition Leads

Samco Intake Pipe

K&N Crank Case breathers

Cold Feed Pipes

NGK PFR6E 10 Platinum Spark plugs

Dyno Run after above fitted and Injectors Cleaned, to be honest they were pretty good at 238cc, 240cc, 240cc, 239cc.............169bhp 145ftlbs so an increase from start of 2.5%

Inlet Manifold Work

The Ph1 Clio 172 is known for sapping power due to poor casting of the stock inlet manifold, this was sum what later addressed with the introduction of the RS stamped inlet but still not perfect.
Anyway i tracked down an RS Inlet and Matched/ported to both the Head and also the the Plenum.

RS Pre Matching                                                                                       RS Matched/ported

Stock 172                                                                                                 RS Matched/ported

On installation i found a broken injector which was the cause of the intermittent misfire i had at Anglesey, a 2nd hand injector was purchased and fitted along with the Inlet. Next step hopefully with the help of http://www.superchips.co.uk/ in a 'custom remap' the RS 172 will be ready for 1st Race of 2012 on 15th April.

Weight Saving on the RS 172

It's all about Power/Weight Ratio and since the RS is lacking in power and wanting to keep to the original Principles of 'Stock Engine & Drive Train' it's at the stage now where i'm limited on Chassis Development due to Regulations.

I'v Taken the interior weight saving as far as i can with still complying with MSA Regulations.

Already removed around 40kgs with Air Con, Abs, Engine Covers, Drivers Seat, Steering Wheel (including airbag). So continued with the below:

Remove Front & Rear carpets
Remove all the sound deadening
Remove the Passenger Airbag and replace dash with one from a 1.2 Clio (driver Airbag already removed)
Remove abs ecu and wiring
Remove Bonnet catch and maybe front panel (need to check with MSA on the front Panel)
Remove Front Fog Lights
Remove CD Player and Wiring

Weight Removed:
Parcel Shelf=2kg
boot carpet=2.2kg
Toolkit=3.5kg
Spare wheel=15kg
Driver seat=23kg
Carpet and underlay=9kgs
Sound deadening=10kg
Steering wheel & 2 airbags=10kgs
Air Con and lightweight pully's=16kg
Fog lights=3kg
Iso Fix Bar=3kgs

Total 96.7kgs

Weight added:
Seat=9kg
Subframe=6kg
Steering wheel=4kg
Harness=3kg

Total 22kgs

So a weight loss of 74.7kgs giving a Race weight of 960.3kgs

Power to Weight:      175 bhp/ton
0-60:      6.6
0-100:      16.9
60-100:      10.3
1/4 Mile ET:      14.78
1/4 Mile Terminal:      94
Dragstrip 1/4 Mile ET:      14.48
Dragstrip 1/4 Mile Terminal:      96
